Goldbacked dragons are as elegant as they are deadly. Powerful runners as well as flyers they can outpace most other creatures, other dragons included, though they rarely hunt their own kind mainly choosing to hunt deer. They prefer the vast open plains and steppes rather than the rockier mountains or forested regions as their long legs make them poor climbers. Nesting in such open areas leaves the young vulnerable so they are born running - with an attitude to match. As they grow their wings they mellow down, relying more on the startling flash of color to frighten off predators than their ferocity. Adults retain the golden back and wings, often flashing them as a form of silent communication across the vast planes. Breeding pairs will actually dance, flashing their wings at each other in complicated displays as they move around each other.
